The Park is looking good. The palm
trees are all trimmed. The streets have been cleaned twice by street
sweepers. The Phoenix area has been hit with Monsoon activity in
past weeks. Just last Saturday there were 69 cars involved in
accidents on I-10. However, AJ has not received much activity. The
storms go all around us. We have enjoyed some 90 degree
temperatures. However, temperatures are going back up into triple
digit figures in next week.
The Park is putting on a Labor Day Pot Luck on Monday - providing
the chicken -residents will do the side dishes. It is always a fun
get together for everyone. Then the Park will put on a birthday day
party for everyone having a birthday in September on the 14th.
We are beginning to get messages from residents to start holding
their mail. Just a reminder to everyone - either call the Office
(800 #) or write a note to the Office informing them when we should
start holding your mail.
We look forward to seeing everyone.

We thought it was about time we
wrote a message to all our dear friends at Rock Shadows. We hope all
is well with you and that you are anxiously planning your return to
Arizona!
We, too are looking forward to the trip. I have had a pretty rough
summer. At my physical in May they discovered a heart murmur. A trip
to the Cardiologist and testing showed an aortic valve malfunction
that is ok for now with new heart medications. As an afterthought, I
asked for a carotid Doppler study. That test showed a blockage on
the left side that was between 80 and 90 percent blocked. I had
surgery shortly afterward which was a success. Unfortunately,
sometime during surgery my throat was injured. As of this writing, I
have very little voice and I am not sure how long the healing will
take. I have orders to restrict talking and absolutely no singing!
During a visit to a throat specialist, he found a nodule in the back
of my mouth that was suspicious. That nodule was removed today and
was sent to the lab for a biopsy. The result of this test will
determine when we can leave for Rock Shadows.
I am very sorry that I won't be able to direct the Thursday Morning
Chorus or direct Sunday morning Gospel Fellowship. If there is
anyone out there who would be willing to cover for me until my voice
comes back, I would be forever grateful. We are also in desperate
need of a piano player.
On a happier note....We will be leaving for a cruise next Wednesday.
Two weeks at sea and abroad should cure me of my ills quickly.
Take care everyone and keep us in your prayers.
Thanks so much Chuck for your diligence putting together the
newsletters. It's always good to hear from our friends.

Winston is at the farm progress show
today and I am painting the hallway.
I wanted to send a note about Thursday August 26. It was a wonderful
day for the IA, IL, KS and MO summer outing. We met at the Pizza
Ranch in Indianola, IA. A wonderful buffet lunch was had. The
afternoon was spent at the party shed where games, card games and
visiting were totally enjoyed. A special thank you to Darl and Joy
Reynolds and Don and Deloris Van Ryswyk for hosting the day. I'm
enclosing some pictures taken that day.
Winston and I will be praying for safe journeys for anyone traveling
to AZ in the coming months. We will be looking forward to seeing
many of you in December. I will try to write and send pictures of
the harvest.
It looks like it will be starting before the end of the month.

We are sitting here tonight just wishing that we were some
where warmer.!! We hit a balmy 10C and have the furnace turned ON,
and therefore kicking out some well needed heat. "And" we are
reading and hearing from friends who are saying "come on September
and bring cooler weather" ...well we know what part of the world
they are from!! And it is NOT us!
Bryce is having a hard time trying
to clean up our garden because of the cool rainy weather.
Did we have summer yet???
But we will not complain because we know that there are people far
worse off in other parts of the world, then we are.
I really wanted to tell you Chuck, that the changes you made to our
Rock Comp newsletter are superb and truly appreciate all the work
you do to produce this informative WEB page. Thank you so much. Also
tell Jery thanks for her part in the production and that I try many
of her delicious recipes.
Take care
Hoping to see you in the winter

News from Prescott Valley

It has been a very nice week weather
wise for us. It has been mostly dry with the temps back in the mid 80°s.
The top is back down on our little red car. I have been scheduled to
call Bingo every Thursday night this month, as I did last month, in
Prescott and it gets a little chilly riding home in an open car at
10p.m. so we need to wear a jacket. Nighttime temps are in the 50°s.
This Bingo calling is getting expensive as Jery plays whenever I call
and she hasn't won for a long time. We do have big pots though, so when
she wins, it will last for a long time.
Gasoline prices in the Prescott area are $2.51.

The Diamondbacks are still solidly in last place in the National League,
Western Division. Now 22 games behind first place San Diego. So far
they have won 55 games and lost 79 for a .410 average.
What a week it was for the Diamondbacks. They beat second place San
Francisco 2 out of 3 games and followed that by beating first
place San Diego 3 out of a 3 game series. I don't know how to explain
the turn around but they were great games to watch. Of course it is much
too late for it to mean anything for the playoffs but they gained 6
places in the standings.
Although I like baseball, I am again
watching every game. It is more enjoyable now. |
